Sri Suktam - In Sanskrit with Meaning

Sri Suktam (Shree Suktam) is a Sanskrit devotional hymn addressed to appease Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, prosperity and fertility. This Vedic sloka is specially chanted on Fridays for abundant peace, prosperity and overall happiness. Goddess Lakshmi, who is known to be the devoted wife of Lord Vishnu or Narayan, depicts the magnificence and grandeur of Gods. Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, together, stand for ‘Being’ and ‘Becoming’.

Sri Suktam is one of the Pancha Suktam (5 Suktams) which are as follows; Vishnu Suktam, Bhu suktam, Sri Suktam, Purusha suktam, and Nila Suktam. By reciting the Sri Suktam mantra, one can attain pure bliss of happiness. It is widely believed that chanting of this divine sloka helps in attaining a supreme power to those who recite it with devotion and full discipline. With the regular recitation of this powerful mantra, one can draw all-round prosperity, goodness, health, wealth and happiness.

According to Vishnu Purana, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, are like fire and heat, oil and greasiness, sun and light, flower and fragrance, water and liquidity, etc. Taking note of such a similarity, it is crystal clear that the two are in fact ‘one being envision as twofold’ for meditation and worship. The Shree Suktam is the invocation of God, depicting the grandeur of his creation, his sovereignty, his supreme powers, and his magnificent divine being.

Importance of Chanting Sri Suktam Path

It is said that Shree Suktam to be one of the most important prayers among the different suktas relates to eradicating the existence of Jyeshtha Lakshmi or Alakshmi. Jyeshtha Lakshmi is regarded as an elder sister of Goddess Lakshmi, and she is known to bring bad luck and misfortune to one’s life. She is associated with sloth, poverty, ugliness, sorrow, and the crow and attract problems, unhappiness, obstacles, grief, failure, conflicts, delays, abusive language, etc.

The recitation of Sri Suktam helps and destructs the existence of Shri Jyeshta Lakshmi( who is responsible for inauspicious things and misfortunes) from one’s life. Also, don’t forget that it is actually Shri Jyestha Lakshmi who has owl as her vahana, but Goddess Lakshmi has Garuda as her vahana. So while worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, one should imagine the image/picture of Goddess Lakshmi with Garuda. Hence, you are recommended to follow the recitation of Shree Suktam to get all your wishes fulfilled.
