A Brief About Islamic Days 2023

The Islamic calendar 2023, commonly referred to as the Lunar or Hijri calendar, is used by Muslims all over the world to calculate the dates of religious events and observances. The calendar is referred to as the Hijri calendar because it starts in the year that the Prophet moved from Medina, (the city where he served as the caliph and from which Islam developed and spread), to Mecca, (the city where he was born). This migration is referred to as the Hijri in Arabic.

A new month begins when a new moon is visible in the Islamic days list for 2023, which is based on 12 lunar months that are dependent on the movement of the moon, and because 12 synodic months are only 12 x 29.53=354.36 days. In addition, an Islamic month 2023 has 29 or 30 days depending on the year. In the event that the new crescent is seen on the twenty-ninth day, the new month will start the next day. On the 30th day of the month, if the crescent is not visible, after that a new month begins.

Muslim Festivals 2023: The Most Important Days For Muslim Community

  1. Shab-E-Barat: An important night in the Islamic Holidays is Shab-E-Barat, which is observed in the middle of Shaban (on the night in between the 14th and 15th of Shaban). It is named Nisf Shaban for this reason. This auspicious night lasts from dusk on the 14th of Shaban till dawn on the 15th. Many Muslims consider Shab e Barat to be the night of forgiveness, and they spend the entire night in prayer asking Allah to bless them.
  2. Ramadan: In the Hijri Calendar, Ramadan is the ninth month. The length of the month ranges between 29 and 30 days. Ramadan is one of Islam's Five Pillars, and it is also the month when the Prophet Mohammed received the first revelation of the Al-Quran (S.A.W.). Ramadan is derived from the Arabic term "Ramad" or "Ramida," which signifies intense heat or drought. Ramadan, then, is the period of time during which one abstains from eating or drinking anything from dawn until dusk.

Ramadan Moon Sighting Dua:

Allahumma ahlilhu `alainā bil-yumni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-Islam, rabbi wa rabbuk Allah

Which means: O Allah, grant us protection, blessings, faith, safety, and Deen throughout this time. Allah is both my Lord and your Lord.

  1. Laylat al Qadr: The Arabic word Laylat al Qadr refers to "Night of Power" or "Night of Decree" in English. Laylat Al Qadr is the holiest night of Ramadan, which emphasises the significance of this night. Ramadan is the holiest month for all Muslims worldwide. As was mentioned at the beginning, this night is better than a thousand months, and worshipping on this night is equal to 83 years of worship. A true Muslim should be motivated to spend this night in prayer, Dua, and Dhikr, asking Allah for forgiveness and all of the bounties of this world and the hereafter.

Laylat al Qadr Dua:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka Afuwwun [Karimun ] tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee

Which means:

O Allah, You Are Indeed Forgiving, [Generous,] You love forgiveness so please pardon me.

  1. Eid ul Fitr: All Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid ul Fitr as a religious holiday. Ramadan, a holy month, ends with Eid al-Fitr. Allah rewards Muslims who fasted during the month of Ramadan with Eid al Fitr. Additionally, muslims are expressing their gratitude to Allah for providing them with the opportunity and the fortitude to obey His orders during the glorious month of Ramadan. In practically all Muslim nations, Eid al Fitr is traditionally observed for three days.
  2. Hajj: Hajj is an Arabic word that can denote "Aim," "Destination," or "Purpose." The Hajj is the ultimate pilgrimage to the House of Allah (Kaaba). One of the five pillars of Islam is the hajj. Every Muslim is obligated to perform Hajj once in a lifetime who is at least 18, healthy and able to perform the Hajj. A capable person is one who is financially and physically able to finance the trip.

Dua For Hajj:

Labbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbayk laa shareeka laka labbayk, 'innal-hamda, wanni'mata, laka wal mulk, laa shareeka laka.

Which means:

I am always at your service, O Allah. You have no partner; I am always at your service. Indeed, all glory, benefits, and dominions are Yours. No one is your companion.

  1. Eid ul Adha: Prophet Ismail (A.S.) was ready to be offered as a sacrifice by his father, Ibrahim (AS), but Allah substituted a lamb in place of his son. Ibrahim's (A.S.) submission to Allah was so well received by Allah that He made Ibrahim's (A.S.) act of sacrifice and faith a permanent part of every Muslim's life. As a result, Muslims over the world celebrate Eid ul Azha on the tenth of Dhul Hijjah every year. Muslims sacrifice a lamb, sheep, goat, or camel on this day to commemorate Ibrahim's sacrifice.
  2. Muharram: In its literal definition, the word "Muharram" means "forbidden." It is prohibited to wage war or engage in any form of violence during this month, as it is throughout the other sacred months.

Muharram First Day Dua: On the first of the Muharram month, recite a two-Rakat Salah with Al Hamdu Sharif and 11 times of Ikhlass in each Rakat. After that, read Awal Muharram Dua.

  1. Ashura: The most sacred day of Muharram is Ashura, which is held on the tenth day of the month. One of the greatest tragedies in our history is the martyrdom of Husain Ibn Ali (R.A.) and this tragic incident in Karbala occurred on the day of Ashura..

On Ashura, Recite Ziarat Ashura, Dua Alqama and Surah Ikhlas as much as possible.

  1. Rabbi ul Awwal: In the Islamic calendar, sometimes referred to as the Hijri calendar, Rabi ul Awal is the third month. Rabbi in Arabic is the equivalent of spring, while Al Awwal is the equivalent of the first. As a result, Rabbi ul Awwal as a whole means "The First Spring." The Holy Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) was born in this month, which is the most important and notable occurrence in human history, making Rabi ul Awal the most important month in Islamic history. Consequently, this month is recognised as our beloved Prophet's birth month (S.A.W.).

On Rabi Ul Awwal, recite the Seerah of Prophet Mohammad.
