Muslim Calendar, also known as Islamic Calendar and Hijri Calendar is followed by the people of Muslim Community (Islamic religion) across the world. This calendar is a lunar calendar that signifies all major festivals of Muslim people. Muslims of almost all Islamic countries refer Muslim / Islamic Calendar for the dates of their festivals and other major events. Muslim Calendar includes 12 months and is 10 or 11 days shorter than Gregorian Calendar. Therefore, if seen from Gregorian point of view, the commencing date of the Muslim Calendar is never same. For Muslims, the year 2013 will begin from November 2012 (Gregorian calendar). First month of Muslim Calendar is known by the name 'Muharram'. The names of all months in Muslim calendar are in Arabic language. The Islamic / Muslim weekdays starts from sunset and end at the time of sunset of another day, which means that Muslim's New Year 2013 will begin at the evening of 14th November 2012 and end at the evening of 15th November 2012.

All the festivals celebrated by Muslim people have their own significance. Like all the gone years, in 2013 also Muslims will be very enthusiastic for their festivals. 2013 Muslim festivals calendar will start with Milad Un Nabi that is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of prophet Muhammad. Firstly, it is celebrated by Sunni Muslims and then exactly after 5 days, Shia Muslims celebrate it. Large number of Muslim people commemorate the birth of prophet and consider their birth as a gift to humanity. The most auspicious month for Islam is the month of Ramadan, which is the 9th month of Muslim calendar. In Ramadan, the Muslim people fast during the day hours for a complete month and it is believed that gates of heaven stay open in this month. There are some more beliefs related to this propitious month, such as Quran was revealed in this month for the first time and gates of hell remain closed for the entire month. The day when Quran was believed to be revealed or appeared is celebrated as Lailat al Qadr. On the day of Eid - ul - Fitr, they open up their continuous fast and express their honor toward Allah for providing them the strength to control themselves from getting involved in the fantasies of the world. Then comes the festival Eid - ul - Adha, on this day, prophet Ibrahim agreed to sacrifice his own son when he was ordered to do. So, it is also known as the festival of Sacrifice. The year 2013 will end with Muharram as the last Muslim festival in the Muslim festival calendar 2013. Celebrations of all festivals include different customs, but one thing is common, which is the faith of Muslim people in their Allah.
