Vamana Ekadashi 2013 - Vamana Ekadasi 2013 - Parivartini Ekadashi 2013

Vamana Ekadashi is the biggest Ekadashi of the year

Vamana Ekadashi in 2013 will be celebrated on 15th September. Every year, festival of Vaman Ekadashi is celebrated on the 11th day of the bright half of the Hindu month Bhadrapada and is also known as Padma Ekadashi. All desires of the devotee get fulfilled by observing this fast. Pujan of Vamana Deva should be performed on this date. Ekadashi in the month of Bhado is known as Vamana Ekadashi. On this day, people who observe fast offer fruits as well as flowers and worship the idol of Vamana by adorning it to get the immense blessings of Almighty.
As per the beliefs of some other communities, this fast is also observed on the 12th day of the bright half of the Hindu month Bhado. The fast that is observed on 11th day also known as Ekadashi is called Padma Ekadashi. On the other hand, another community believes that being an Ekadashi fast this fast should be observed on 11th day only. Hence, on 15th September, Vaman Ekadashi Vrat will be observed. Additionally, 16th September will be observed as Dwadashi. Observing fast on this day brings prosperity to ones life. While offering adornments, chant the following Mantra:

Deveshcharaya Devaya, Deva Sambhuti Kaariney |
Prabhavey Sarv Devanaam Vamanaya Namo Namah ||

There is another way to perform this Puja. After the Puja, God is offered with 52 Pedas (an Indian sweet) and 52 Dakshina. After that, Brahmin is offered a basket full of one bowl rice, one bowl Sharbat (syrup), one bowl sugar, and one bowl curd. The Udyapan (wrap up or ending up) of the fast should also be done on this day only. On the day of Udyapan, the Brahmins should be offered with an umbrella, Khadaun (the wooden footwear) and Dakshina. The observer of this fast gets salvation.

Significance of Vamana Ekadashi

Vamana Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day of the bright half of the Hindu month Bhado. This Ekadashi is also known as Jayanti Ekadashi. All sins get eradicated by observing this Ekadashi fast. If big sinners observe this fast and perform Puja (worship) on this day, they get relief from their sins. The devotee who worships Lord Vishnu on the day of Parivartini Ekadashi gets salvation.

There is a negligible doubt in the results of this Ekadashi. One who worships the Vamana Avatar of the Almighty on this day, his worship is equivalent to the worship of Trinity Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh. After observing the Vrat (fast) of this Ekadashi, nothing is left to be performed in this world. There is a belief that on this day of Vamana Ekadashi Lord Vishnu changes his side while sleeping. That is why this Ekadashi is also known as Parivartini Ekadashi.

Vamana Ekadashi Vrat Katha & Legend

In Tretayuga, there was a man named Bali. He used to serve devotees, honest people and Brahmins. Additionally, he always used to do worship and penance. Due to the power of his worship he started ruling the position of Indra. Indra and other Gods could not bear this thing and approached Almighty for mercy. In the end, Lord Vishnu took an Avatar of Vamana. Further, he pleaded King Bali to donate him his three steps of land, as he was the Brahmin Vamana. He enlightened him that this donation will fetch him the fruit of donating the three worlds. King Bali accepted this small request. After that, Lord Vishnu increased his size. With his first step he covered the entire Earth, the second took the entire universe and when no space was left for the third step, King Bali offered his head. As soon as he placed his foot over the head of Bali, he got pushed deep to the Patal Lok.

When King Bali pleaded to Lord Vishnu in Patal Lok, the Lord assured that he will stay with him always. Since then, on the 11th day of bright half of Hindu month Bhado, the day of Parivartini Ekadashi, one image of Lord Vishnu stays with King Bali. On the other hand, one image sleeps in the ocean of milk over Sheshnaag (King of Snakes). On the day of this Ekadasi, Lord Vishnu changes his side while sleeping. The Lord of three worlds, Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day. There is a special ritual of donating rice and curd along with Silver on this day.

So, this was all on Vamana Ekadashi and its celebration in 2013. Hope this article will come in handy while celebrating Vamana Ekadashi this year. With this, we hope you get the immense blessings of Lord Vamana. Happy Vamana Ekadashi 2013!
